Continuous Improvement Engineer I

Georgia-Pacific’s Corrugated Division is seeking a Continuous Improvement Engineer to join our team in Cleveland TN. This role will utilize leadership, influence, operations experience, and communication abilities to analyze and identify change improvement opportunities related to people, process, and systems across multiple GP Corrugated facilities. Successful candidates will have demonstrated ability to coach several levels of leadership at all levels within the organization. The Continuous Improvement Engineer will influence long-term profitability through innovation with the implementation of MBM® Culture and Strategic Platforms.

What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Facilitate a culture of safety and environmental excellence through critical hazard identification, risk reduction and risk mitigation
  • Provide technical support for the manufacturing process area to facilitate troubleshooting and problem solving to achieve goals
  • Partner with operators, maintenance, and others to understand all processes and how teams and individuals are involved and impacted at each step
  • Develop and implement best practices and innovative solutions to improve and optimize production rates, quality output and uptime
  • Assist production operations to drive improvement in manufacturing efficiencies by utilizing continuous improvement techniques
  • Engage individual employees and teams to identify opportunities, problem solve and implement sustainable countermeasures
  • Gather process data and perform statistical/analytical tests to uncover important variables and their impacts
  • Conduct in-depth data analysis to support decision making process and future business recommendations
  • Utilize existing systems to create and track initiatives, milestones, KPI’s and business impacts
  • Provide technical support for the manufacturing process area to facilitate troubleshooting and problem solving to achieve goals
  • Assist in the development Standardized Operating Procedures, Checklists and troubleshooting guidelines
  • Support Discipline Operations through Key Performance Indicators management
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver value results in an industrial, manufacturing, or operational environment
  • Demonstrated capability in organizational behavior and change management
  • Project management capability for effective prioritizing, managing time, and appropriately escalating issues
  • Develop and maintain effective partnerships with key capabilities at customer sites
  • Facilitation experience with FMEAs, RCAs, value stream mapping, or similar processes

The Experience You Will Bring


  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or economics OR equivalent work experience
  • Relevant experience with Six Sigma, Lean, 4DX, or other Continuous Improvement methodologies.
  • Willing and able to travel domestically at least 15% of the time or as needed by the business

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
  • Certification in Six Sigma, Lean, 4DX, or other Continuous Improvement methodologies (black belt, green belt, etc).
  • A minimum of (1) year of experience with effectively developing, influencing, and successfully executing significant change initiatives.
  • Corrugated or Containerboard manufacturing operations leadership experience
