Georgia-Pacific's Palatka Mill is seeking an Assistant Superintendent to support our two Kraft Paper Machines for our Consumer Products manufacturing operation located in Palatka, FL. Located just south of Jacksonville and west of St. Augustine, FL, the fully integrated Palatka operation employs about 950 people and has two Kraft paper machines, four tissue paper machines as well as several converting lines. The operation produces consumer tissue products such as bath tissue and paper towels sold under the Georgia-Pacific brand names of Angel Soft®, Quilted Northern®, Brawny®, and Sparkle®. This position reports directly to the Kraft Product Systems Leader and will work with leaders from Pulp, Power and Recovery, maintenance, operations, and engineering capabilities.

The Assistant Superintendent supporting our Kraft Paper Machines adds value by helping to increase the effectiveness of the asset group by improving reliability, work processes, equipment performance, and team member capabilities specifically within our Kraft Paper manufacturing segment. 

What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Lead and encourage others to behave in ways that are consistent with Market Based Management (MBM®) guiding principles. 
  • Fostering an environment with zero incidents in Environmental, Health and Safety 
  • Leading the implementation of complete asset strategies and facilitate zone ownership strategy and operator basic care execution by transferring ownership to operators and technicians to operate, maintain and improve 
  • Proactively seeking out process and equipment improvements 
  • Executing and optimizing Georgia-Pacific reliability and asset strategies 
  • Providing technical expertise and sharing knowledge with operators/technicians, Reliability Coordinator, and Shift Capability Leaders 
  • Developing and verifying skills of others in the team system 
  • Managing the financial plan for the area and prioritization of paper machine work requests 

The Experience You Will Bring


  • Bachelor’s degree or higher WITH 2 or more years of experience working within a continuous manufacturing environment; OR Associates degree or higher WITH 5 or more years of experience working within a continuous manufacturing environment 
  • Experience working with software applications such as Microsoft Office programs such as Word (to write business correspondence), Excel (for use of spreadsheets, reporting, simple formulas), Power Point (for presentations) and Outlook (for internal and external correspondence) 
  • Experience having worked within a paper making segment of a manufacturing operation 

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Chemical Engineering or Pulp and Paper Sciences 
  • 5 or more years of experience working within the specific area of Paper manufacturing focused on packaging grades 
  • Experience with paper machine wet end chemistry. 
  • Experience as a supervisor with responsibility for performance management of direct reports OR leadership experience in for the form of capital project management from conceptualization to fruition 
  • Experience using PI ProcessBook or a similar application of process monitoring 
  • Experience with applying Root Cause Analysis techniques 
  • Experience with basic process control application
