Director, Strategic Raw Materials

INVISTA is seeking an experienced leader for the position of Director, Strategic Raw Materials in Wichita, KS. This role will report to the Director, Global Sourcing and will provide leadership to the commodity leaders responsible for the portfolio strategies, supply, and purchasing activities for strategic raw materials across INVISTA locations globally. This is a significant commercial role which requires collaboration with senior management across all businesses in addition to capabilities such as Operations and Finance. The Director, Strategic Raw Materials will be responsible for development and execution of supply strategies of significant consequence to INVISTA’s businesses.

This role will be based in Wichita, KS.

What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Lead a global team to develop sourcing strategies, build partnerships, lead negotiations, and execute the supply of strategic raw materials (critical raw materials, catalysts, additives, and other chemicals) consistent with business vision and strategies and meeting production objectives
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and development opportunities to the strategic raw material team to promote professional development and build a robust sourcing capability
  • Lead the strategic raw material team to develop processes, knowledge systems and tools that facilitate transparency and allow the application of economic thinking and a trading mentality to decision-making
  • Collaborate with business leadership to develop and maintain sourcing strategies that are aligned with the vision/objectives of the business and demonstrate the application of a trading mentality against a wide range of future outcomes
  • Ensure that your team establishes and maintain close communication with the businesses and plants regarding the sourcing of materials in the desired quantities and delivery requirements
  • Provide business leadership with market information, guidance, strategy reviews and updates on supplier and market issues. Develop presentations on these topics to be communication and challenge across the organization
  • Ensure that goods are obtained from approved sources, meet existing quality and performance standards using proper purchasing practices which comply with all legal and regulatory requirements

  • Ability to lead through influence, recommending sourcing strategies and delivering results
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively, developing, framing up, and articulating strategies with risk- adjusted economic trade-offs
  • Aptitude for analytical thinking and analysis
  • Strong project management skills with ability to plan, assign resources, manage progress, integrate across capabilities, execute, and deliver results
  • Communicates tactfully and effectively both verbally and in writing and maintains effective work relations
  • Strong leadership and talent development skills

The Experience You Will Bring


  • Bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years of applicable chemical industry strategic level purchasing, supply chain/procurement experience
  • Experience developing and implementing commercial or corporate strategies
  • Experience leading and directing teams
  • Experience negotiating contracts

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Knowledge of chemical raw materials and feedstock and INVISTA businesses and markets
  • SAP experience/knowledge
  • Trading or other risk-management experience
  • Experience and knowledge of the petrochemicals industry
  • International business experience
  • Experience with/Applied understanding of MBM to include: Marginal Analysis, Risk adjusted thinking, and Trading mentality
