All UK manufacturing is based from the state of the art plant at Goole, East Yorkshire. Purpose built in 2003, the plant is able to produce some of the most advanced and innovative energy saving glass on the market today.

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the reliability and improvement of complex mechanical manufacturing assets.
Reporting into the Maintenance Manager, this is a far reaching mechanical role with a broad remit across a diverse facility. The plant is a upper tier COMAH site which operates a 24/7 production process of float glass manufacture.

What You Will Do In Your Role

The Mechanical Engineer will be competent to work autonomously to identify and implement projects and improvements; safety of equipment, identifying aging plant and obsolescence, developing solutions to support reliability, efficiency of assets and OEE. A proactive attitude with a will to succeed is paramount, where team ethic and knowledge share is a must to develop best practice and engineering processes. You will have the technical acumen and ability to investigate complex mechanical issues to root cause, investigating alternative solutions and proposal, delivering real sustainable long term results.

The Engineer will be responsible for initiating improvements and leading projects through their life cycle from conceptual idea and business case through to installation, commission and equipment handover to end user. They will be accountable for managing and documenting change to existing plant including risk analysis and documentation. The role will involve contract management and contractor management on site. The right candidate will have the competence to support development of maintenance teams where required.

The candidate will ideally have worked within a manufacturing environment with an underpinning knowledge of all mechanical principles including an understanding of vacuum, material handling, belts, rollers and conveyors, transmission drives, gas and pressure systems, compressors, water treatment systems.

Working to ensure that the engineering principles, plant standards and best practice remains compliant with statutory law and changing approved codes of practice. They will have an active involvement with Environmental and Health and Safety improvements. Ideally the candidate will be familiar with standards and regulations including but not limited to; COMAH, DSEAR, ATEX, EUETS, LOLER, PSSR.

The Experience You Will Bring

Requirements:

  • Degree qualified or equivalent in mechanical engineering (BSc/BTEC/NVQ/HNC/HND or similar);
  • Substantial experience in a demanding environment, preferably manufacturing;
  • A proven record of working as a mechanical engineer in a similar role;
  • A proven skill set in CAPEX and mechanical continuous improvement projects;
  • Experience and understanding of the standards and regulations mentioned above;

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Experience in lean manufacturing is desirable.
