Laboratory Technician

Primary Responsibility:

The Laboratory Technician will perform routine and special laboratory-type operations as well as various physical test procedures and calculations which are concerned with the process or product, physical and chemical property analyses, and yarn property measurements. All laboratory technicians are on call and expected to come back to the plant when needed to run samples; this role is often required to work additional hours for control and release of product. After training a Laboratory Technician may be scheduled to work shiftwork to meet business needs and additional NOVA testing.

Typical tasks may include, but are not limited to:

· Prepare and run environmental control, nylon fiber, and raw materials samples, including in-process materials and final product.

· Handling chemicals, disposing of hazardous waste, and wearing proper PPE (personal protective equipment).

· Prepare and measure dimensions of product to verify conformance to specifications, quality, and performance using measuring instruments.

· Analyze various raw materials, in-process materials, environmental control samples, and final product by following established techniques and procedures.

· Analyze test data and make computations, as necessary, to determine test results. Record results on proper forms, record books, and data terminals.

· Discuss inspection or test data results with those responsible for products and recommend corrective action.

· Work with computer programs that include, but not limited to, such things as Excel, PQM (Process Quality Management), predictive maintenance, equipment and supply ordering, chemical inventory and ordering, and equipment history, etc.

· Perform basic housekeeping responsibilities to maintain a clean and safe working environment.

· Additional responsibilities as needed to support the lab and operations’ needs.

· Reasonable requests by supervisor.

    • Good interpersonal skills and communication skills.
    • Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks and priorities.
    • Proficient in basic computer skills (Microsoft Excel, PQM, SAP, TMS).

    Requirements:

    • No performance or safety corrective actions within the last year
    • Proficient in basic computer skills (Microsoft Excel, PQM, SAP, TMS)
    • Understanding of Staple product flow

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Level 1 Permit Issuer.
    • Level 2 Permit Issuer.
    • Previous experience in Lab role.
    • Experience in product sampling.

    Physical Requirements and Working Conditions (Ability to perform requirements with/or without accommodation):

    • Walking, standing, stooping, squatting, reaching, pulling and bending often. Occasionally lift of 5 – 10 lbs.
    • Primary responsibilities are performed in the laboratory.

    · Employees that are currently performing this role or have performed this role within the past two (2) years and are/were at least meeting expectations of the role are exempt from this testing.
