Health & Safety Leader


Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Safety, Health and Compliance Leader to support our Northwest Service Center locations (2) located in Portland, OR. This leader will support the development and implementation of both essential safety and health initiatives, as well as support site EHS capability development. Essential safety and health programs include but are not limited to: Lock-Tag-Verify, Fall Protection, Mobile Equipment, Incident Investigation, Emergency Response, Electrical Safe Work Practices, Personal Protective Equipment, Line Break Equipment Opening, Confined Space Entry, Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) and Save My Life work permitting.

What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Assist in the development and delivery of S&H and Compliance regulatory and company required training
  • Provide a visible safety presence in the field with operations, maintenance, and contract work groups
  • Serve as subject matter expert for projects, ensuring compliance with all applicable S&H requirements
  • Lead and participate in risk assessments, building knowledge and capability throughout the organization
  • Lead and participate in incident investigations, enhancing capability throughout the organization to conduct effective investigations that focus on learning and improving our capacity to fail safely
  • Lead and provide support to risk reduction prioritization by leveraging the company risk assessment process.
  • Coach and mentor personnel to facilitate ownership of S&H and Compliance at all levels of the organization
  • Provide leadership to site EHS team, including compliance system owners (CSOs) to ensure maximum value creation

The Experience You Will Bring


  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field, OR three (3+) or more years in a safety-related role in an industrial/manufacturing facility
  • Experience using and applying effective EHS Management Systems, and achieving demonstrated results
  • Experience and working knowledge of OSHA regulations and compliance
  • Experience developing site regulatory compliance programs and training

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or equivalent certification
  • Five (5) or more years in a safety leadership type role at an industrial/manufacturing facility
  • Experience with managing Environmental programs, including working knowledge of OR-EPA related laws applicable to a smaller site
