The senior structural engineer will join our structural / mechanical engineering team located in our Vimercate Design and Engineering center to execute structural and mechanical engineering activities for equipment packages (Flare Systems, Thermal Oxidizer Systems, Vapor Recovery Units, Distillation Skids, Membrane Skids etc.).

You will be responsible for the customer specification review, performing mechanical calculations on static equipment, steel structure analysis and design, compiling calculation reports, and review / approval of drawings and 3D models. Working in a multidisciplinary international team, you will develop / check design packages to ensure they meet customer requirements with a focus on on-time performance, sound design quality, and optimization. As needed, you will interface with customer contacts, designers, and manufacturers to illustrate solutions and details about the defined design. 

What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Perform strength calculations for structures supporting equipment and piping, including operating, transport, and lifting cases.
  • Perform strength calculations for steel stacks and support structures (Self supported, Guy wired, and Derrick supported)
  • Perform evaluation of local stresses on components for imposed loads utilizing WRC 107/297 or FEA (finite element analysis) for nozzles, brackets, and other non-standard, irregular, or complex geometries.
  • Support proposal engineering team during preordering stage for estimates in particular for structures developing pre-order engineering.
  • Participate in layout engineering during model review stage.
  • Provide technical guidance to CAD designers and drafters.
  • Review in-house and vendor-generated drawings / models.
  • Resolve technical doubts of customers, modelers, and manufacturers using effective communication.
  • Provide and ensure rigorous peer review and improve quality of engineering drawings and documents.
  • Initiate and coordinate engineering activities related to the packages.
  • Assist project, sales and design teams on technical matters.

The Experience You Will Bring

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s / Master’s Degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering
  • Previous experience of hands-on experience in design and engineering of steel structures (pipe racks, derricks) static equipment (stacks, piping, tanks)
  • Familiar with US design codes (such as ASCE, AISC, ASME codes) and some familiarity major international codes (such as EuroCodes, NBCC, AS/NZ, Russian, Chinese and IS Codes) for pressure vessel, stack, pressure piping and steel structure design.
  • Operating proficiency and experience in software STAAD Pro, COMPRESS, CAESAR, PRG Software, or ANSYS.
  • Basic knowledge of welding and fabrication processes, layout engineering, and customer specifications.
  • Basic understanding and ability to interpret assembly and fabrication drawings.
  • Good understanding of mechanical and structural material standards.
  • Good communication skills to interact with customers, vendors, inspection agencies & consultants.
  • Good written and verbal communication in the English language.

  • You have previous experience in design of steel structures and process equipment subject to flow induced vibrations or fatigue analysis
  • You have previous experiences in design of steel structures for offshore marine applications.
