Koch Fertilizer is currently looking for a Machinist in our Brandon, MB location!!!

Based in Brandon, Manitoba, we synthesize and blend nitrogen, phosphate, and sulfur products with ammonia, which we market primarily in the prairie provinces of Canada and the northern United States. Operating 24 hours a day, 365 days per year, we employ approximately 270 dedicated team members. Our fundamental commitment to safety, health, and environmental stewardship drives all our processes.

In accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the successful applicant will be hired into this position at ‘M2’ rate (currently$42.05/hour) and receive a Pay for Knowledge premium of$0.50/hour. All overtime is paid at double time. 

What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Set up and operate horizontal lathes, milling machine and horizontal and vertical boring mills
  • Use precision measuring tools such a micrometers, calipers and gauges, etc.
  • Have a strong attention to manufacturing details, accuracy, & safety
  • Interpret blueprint and mechanical drawings and engineering information to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances
  • Work from drawings, specifications, and their own measurements to calculate dimensions, tolerances and types of fit. Precise measurements are critical to machinists’ work. Must be knowledgeable about the properties of metals and non-metallic materials
  • Produce precision parts that are used in all aspects of manufacturing.
  • Maintain machines, applying basic mechanics and arithmetic to setup machine
  • Use horizontal balancing machine to balance rotors and other rotating equipment parts to specification as required
  • Perform inventory on grinding, milling and lathes parts to ensure machine critical spare are available
  • Oversee and maintain the Hytorq units onsite to ensure functionality
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned
  • Maintain a safe & clean work area 
  • Strong commitment to safety, environmental compliance, and plant reliability 
  • Ability to work proficiently in a variety of tasks
  • Exceptional planning and organizational skills as well as mechanical and operations aptitude

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer
  • Ability to sit, stand, kneel as necessary
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Climb stairs and ladders, work at heights
  • Wear gas mask-type respirator and PPE
  • Tolerance to occasional exposure to fumes/airborne particles and toxic/caustic chemicals with appropriate PPE
  • Unassisted physical mobility in and around plant
  • Availability for shift work and emergency call outs
  • Able to travel to and enter site to access equipment 

The Experience You Will Bring


  • Interprovincial Red Seal Machinist certification
  • High school diploma or equivalent (ie. GED)
  • Valid Class Five (5) driver’s license
  • Knowledge of material properties
  • Experience using industrial tooling as well as troubleshooting mechanical equipment
  • Experience with problem solving to determine best repair solutions
  • Experience with computer skills including experience working with maintenance planning programs
