Power Systems Simulation & Analytics Engineer

Sentient Energy, a Koch Subsidiary company, is hiring a Power Systems Simulation and Analytics Engineer to be part of the Sentient Energy (SE) Grid Edge Simulation and Analytics team in Santa Clara, CA. This full-time position is for an engineer to perform data analysis, modeling, and simulation of power systems with an emphasis on the distribution grid.  

What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Perform modeling and simulation of complex distribution system with different types of assets such as line voltage regulators, load-tap changers, capacitor banks, cables, overhead lines, DER and grid edge devices
  • Analyze and extract value from big data (AMI meter, MV/LV sensors, and SCADA) for electric utilities and provide quantitative measures of improvement brought in by Sentient Energy solutions
  • Perform load flow analysis, hosting capacity analysis and Volt-VAR optimization
  • Develop scripts to automate power system simulations and engineering studies
  • Provide technical support to electric utilities and helping them achieve their energy savings and peak demand reduction goals using CVR and VVO assets
  • Provide support for the marketing and sales team by developing use-case using simulations and load flow studies for future scenarios
  • Help in documentation, writing reports and preparing presentation for interfacing with customers
  • Support customers and interface with them on a day-to-day basic
  • Collaborate in a team environment, present and explain technical information, document work, prepare and present successful proposals

The Experience You Will Bring

Requirements:

  • BS or higher in Electrical Engineering with a focus in Power Systems Engineering
  • Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas: distribution automation and operations or distribution planning
  • Experience in distribution grid simulation and modeling
  • Ability to use standard programming languages to support modeling analysis and visualization for distribution grid

What Will Put You Ahead

  • MS or higher in Electrical Engineering with a focus in Power Systems Engineering
  • Experience in working with utilities customer
  • Experience with distribution grid modeling tools such as Cyme, Synergi, Milsoft and OpenDSS
  • Experience with big data analytics
  • Experience in python scripting
  • Experience in Tableau
