Operations Supervisor


INVISTA Canada's chemical manufacturing site located in Maitland, Ontario has an immediate opening for a talented and results-driven Operations Supervisor. Maitland site produces DYTEK®A amine, a chemical intermediate used globally in products such as polyamide plastics, fibers, adhesives, curing agents, polyurethanes, vitamins, pharmaceuticals, and epoxy resins. Maitland Site also operates Cogeneration Units, a Hydrogen Plant and Utilities operation. The ideal candidate should have experience organizing work groups, mentoring employees, monitoring their progress, ensuring quality and EHS compliance. Utilizing strong communication, leadership, and conflict resolution skills the successful candidate will be excited about guiding, training, and supporting their team members align with the Site Vision. The successful candidate will be people-centered, supportive, and flexible to get the most of their team. You should also be a natural leader that’s focused on inspiring employees to own their work and deliver superior results.

What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Take full ownership of a production area by monitoring, measuring, auditing and reporting on critical manufacturing aspects such as EHS, production, quality and housekeeping
  • Drive a positive work setting, with a strong culture of teamwork across all groups. Ensure an environment that allows open reporting and prompt follow-up and resolution to employee concerns
  • Manage, develop, and motivate a team of approximately 20 direct reports
  • Work closely with other leaders to ensure effective transitions between teams and shifts
  • Ensure direct reports develop the skills required to identify root cause and take effective actions to resolve operating problems. Identify performance gaps and build improvement plans to enhance skill and capabilities within your team
  • Set performance goals that align with the company’s Vision
  • Delegate work to employees, track progress and provide constructive feedback throughout the year by performing regular reviews and yearly performance evaluations
  • Address problems with work quality, issues between employees and other concerns in an effective, timely manner
  • Ensure employees adhere to company policies and legal regulations
  • Motivate team members and create strategies to boost productivity 

The Experience You Will Bring


  • Experience leading/supervising a manufacturing or operations team
  • Experience leading through transformation initiatives
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products
  • High school diploma or equivalent 

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

  • Willingness to work in an industrial environment with varying temperatures and conditions. 
  • Must be able and willing to work a 12-hour rotating shift on occasion

What Will Put You Ahead

  • 3+ years’ experience in a leadership role
  • Previous unionized manufacturing experience
  • Post-secondary education in any technical or technology discipline
