Manufacturing Engineering Lead


Phillips Medisize, a Molex company from the KOCH enterprise is proud to announce the launch of a new greenfield project in Chorzów within the Katowice area. The major investment will result in establishing a new manufacturing plant producing medical device products and equipment for major players from medical and pharmaceutical industry in Europe.

In connection with the launch of the investment, we will be looking for employees for key positions for the company in the areas of quality, production, logistics, engineering, supply chain as well as HR , IT and Finance. Recruitment will be conducted for a period of one and a half years, starting from now until the end of 2022. The construction of the plant is a great opportunity for local candidates as well as specialists from outside the region. Our investment is planned in the long term and the plant will grow.

Manufacturing Engineering Lead

The purpose of the role is to support the Plant Manager of the new plant in Poland in establishing and implementing the Manufacturing Engineering Department during the Plant start up. During the following years leading the Manufacturing Engineering Department by coordinating and leading all engineering activities (Tooling, Process engineering Injection moulding and Manufacturing/automation) to support both the production department and the NPI (New Product Introduction) department to ensure optimum engineering, to meet customer and manufacturing requirements, and to ensure optimal quality & yield targets. 

What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Together with the Plant Manager responsible for establishing and implementing the Manufacturing Engineering Department in the Poland Plant 
  • Managing in the broadest sense the Manufacturing Engineering Department 
  • Developing and Maintaining the work competence of the Manufacturing Engineering Department (including responsibility for assessment of training and development needs) 
  • Responsible that the activities by the employees of the Manufacturing Engineering Department are executed in accordance with the guidelines related to work and factory operations 
  • Forwarding / implementing messages from the Poland Plant Management to all employees of the Manufacturing Engineering Department 
  • Together with the Human Resource department responsible for Human Resources in the Manufacturing Engineering Department
  • Part of the Poland Management Team 
  • Responsible for department budget 
  • Write Short/Middle/Long term department development plan as part of an overall Operations plan
  • Coordinate, direct and lead process & manufacturing engineering efforts to ensure optimum engineering of projects/programs to meet customer and manufacturing requirements 
  • Together with the Operations and Quality Leads to select, develop and execute optimization projects of the process & manufacturing (production) of the Poland plant and related equipment in terms of quality, operating rates and yield (includes personnel, machinery, equipment and operating methods) 
  • Coordinate and provide in cooperation with the NPI Lead the process & manufacturing engineers needed to execute and implement programs into the Poland Plant (New business Awards and Transfers) 
  • Ensure compliance with PMC standards in process & manufacturing engineering efforts executed by the Manufacturing Engineering Department 
  • Maintenance and development of systems and documentation in the Manufacturing Engineering Department 
  • Interface with Quality and Production to ensure compliance with customer/divisional and regulatory requirements 
  • Cooperate with SCAR (Supplier Corrective Action Report) handling issued based on NCR’s (Non-conformance Report), improve process for supplier data submission to reduce internal inspections 
  • Work with technical staff in performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective and preventive actions to preclude recurrence, develop and improve processes to reduce variability 
  • Initiate and actively participate in continuous improvement/innovation projects
  • Work in compliance with current good manufacturing practice (GMP)
  • Provide records in compliance with good documentation practice (GDP)
  • Travel to other facilities may be required to support business needs 
  • Safety/Environmental: 
    • Where applicable, individuals will be required to ensure safety is planned into their work activities to improve performance 
    • Proactively identify safety concerns 
    • Comply with Environmental Management System Program SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures) and WI’s (Working Instructions), Policy & Program elements and encourage responsible use of resources 

The Experience You Will Bring


  • Higher education in a Tooling engineering, Mechanical engineering, Plastics engineering or equivalent studies and/or equivalent knowledge and skills via work experience 
  • Very strong experience in leading an engineering department 
  • Very strong experience with manufacturing processes, injection moulding, automated and manual assembly processes, statistical techniques
  • Fluent English and Polish language skills (both on min. level C1)
  • Having worked on New Product Introductions 
  • Significant leadership experience and previous experience of departmental budget management
  • Understanding of product development and industrialization processes of plastics components 
  • Good manufacturing practice (GMP)
  • Demonstrated good communication, teamwork, and organizational skills 
  • Demonstrated experience in complex program management
  • MS Office 365 proficiency 
  • Flexible, punctual and reliable, willing to take on challenges and show initiative 
  • Respectful of self and others, proactive 
  • Ability to make rationalized decisions and to challenge others respectfully 

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Additional Leadership/ Management courses absolved are nice to have
  • Experience working in a medical manufacturing environment is preferred
  • Statistical methods, Lean manufacturing, 6-sigma - all nice to have
  • Program Management for products in the medical market
  • Experience with SAP 
  • Experience with MES application in Operation environment 
  • 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks preferred)
