Data Governance Steward


The Data Governance Steward role will be accountable for designated data and processes within Georgia Pacific’s Strategic Sourcing & Procurement organization. The role will help develop and install data governance principles to carefully govern and manage the data stream for which they are responsible. Keys to success in this role is the ability to build strong partnerships with business and technology stakeholders, effectively work in matrixed teams through the completion of data management objectives and assure data quality standards are achieved. The ideal candidate will have Data Governance expertise, strong business acumen, and will be able to leverage these competencies to provide stewardship and oversight of key institutional data. 

What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Assists in the design and implementation of a data governance strategy and ensures adherence to related policy and standards. 
  • Assists in the implementation of data management tools and training for related tools. 
  • Partner with key Business Data and IT Systems SMEs to identify data that is critical to their local segment and/or capabilities as well as integrations and rollups to other segments and capabilities and Koch Industries as well where applicable. 
  • Monitor data quality metrics and report out on findings and trends to key stakeholders to drive continuous improvement. 
  • Perform root cause analysis for and drive the resolution of complex data quality issues 
  • Identify Master and Reference data opportunities to further advance the team’s data management agenda 
  • Create and maintain business rules that will enable verification of data accuracy. 
  • Participate in change management activities required to fix data quality and process issues 
  • Develop and maintain master data and measures catalog. 
  • Develop and/or approve names, definitions and formulas for global measures and attributes. 
  • Challenge information received when it’s not consistent with information already in the system or information found elsewhere.

The Experience You Will Bring


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 3 years of data management and/or data analysis experience
  • Experience with understanding relationships between data fields throughout a system
  • Experience in analyzing data, running detailed business reports, or extracting data from a complex system
  • Experience with pivot tables and Vlookup functions in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience in delivering results in a fast-paced environment
  • Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) 

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Procurement experience specifically understanding supplier, item and pricing set up / maintenance processes
  • Experience with data profiling and data profiling techniques
  • Master and Reference data experience
  • Data modeling and architecture exposure
