Flint Hills Resources is looking for a Plant Engineer to support three Biorefineries in Northeast Iowa. The successful applicant will support projects and operations at Shell Rock, Iowa Falls and Fairbank, Iowa. This role will focus on daily support to the operations of these plants, developing projects and owning the planning/execution of value creation and risk reduction projects develop by the business. 

What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Assist team using engineering principles and root cause failure analysis to develop business viable solutions to operational and reliability issues
  • Develop or assist in development of projects to help the plant remain in compliance, reduce risk or improve the plant’s economics
  • Reviewing contractor deliverables, including safety, quality and resolving technical issues during scope development, design, and construction
  • Member of the site leadership team responsible to identify opportunities and risks, then help develop viable solutions to capture the opportunities or reduce/eliminate the risks
  • Strong communication skills to communicate with all levels of the organization, ability to explain technical issues to front line operations team, other engineers and senior business leaders
  • Ability to self-direct work that is aligned with the vision and business goals for the site and overall business
  • This is a growth role with future roles in technical leadership or operational leadership depending on successful applicant professional goals and abilities 

The Experience You Will Bring


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering Discipline
  • 1+ year of engineering experience
  • A valid driver's license

What Will Put You Ahead

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in heavy industrial operating facilities (refining, chemical, power plant)
  • Experience in Fuel Ethanol Production
  • Diversified work experience in multiple engineering disciplines
  • Experience working with phased gate project delivery systems
  • Experience in planning and scheduling for plant outages
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Electrical engineering
