Metrology Engineer

For our location Sligo, Republic of Ireland, we are hiring a 

Metrology Engineer

Reporting to the Metrology Manager, focus of the position is primarily to ensure the compliant operation of the QMS within the site and scope of work as well as to perform a hands-on role in the execution of day-to-day metrology activities at a technical level ensuring that processes are set up and performed in full compliance with QMS, cGMP, safety and other applicable processes as required.

What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Operate as Metrology Engineer for all measurement activity within the site and provide hands-on support to any issues, working closely with the team to guide the resolution
  • Input to the development of equipment requirements (jigs, fixtures) necessary to support the metrology function
  • Prepare, analyse and review of Gauge R&Rs, execute reports including Minitab analysis 
  • Contribute to data analysis & report generation via design of experiments, for feedback to process engineering on manufacturing process
  • Ensure that metrology equipment installations and maintenance activities performed conform to all applicable equipment safety codes and standards 
  • Generate, review, approve and maintain standard operating procedures / work instructions within the metrology area
  • Oversee and support the troubleshooting of equipment and/or method issues 
  • Programming complex systems e.g. Zeiss CMM equipment, Laser Scan, Nikon Vision System 
  • Provide SME guidance & support when routine calibration of metrology equipment is being considered and executed 
  • Work directly with equipment providers to maintain good working relationships to ensure calibration & maintenance supports are available at all times 
  • Follow site safety requirements, promote a culture of safety, whereby all accidents are preventable and support site safety initiatives 
  • Intermittent travel up to 10%, mainly to the other Irish location in Letterkenny or to a sister site in Europe - Denmark, Czech Republic, Finland

The Experience You Will Bring


  • Strong working knowledge of metrology systems, with an innate technical trait for the operation of sophisticated metrology systems, e.g. Zeiss CMM & Laser Scanning, Nikon VMA contact & non-contact systems, and programming of same, and interpretation of results 
  • Strong working knowledge of reading and interpretation of technical drawings as per ASME-Y14.5M 
  • CT scan point cloud data analysis desirable 
  • Knowledge in the use of Minitab and the execution of various studies, for example but not limited to GR&R, DOE, Stats Analysis 
  • Proficient in use of MS Office
  • Experience performing metrology instrument installation and understanding of calibration principles
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in an engineering or scientific discipline required; Engineering certification and/or advanced degree preferred
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks or CAD based software in support of the development of jigs & fixtures 
  • Knowledge of ISO 13485 and  Medical industry related work experience would be an advantage
