MECHANIC TECHNICIAN
Description
Primary Responsibility:
Includes installation and maintenance of a range of equipment that includes reciprocating and positive displacement pumps, compressors, turbines, gear reducers, valves, and piping. Motive forces include hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical, electro-mechanical, and steam systems.
- Troubleshoot, plan, and perform corrective maintenance on mechanical systems.
- Plan and perform predictive and preventive maintenance to prevent breakdowns and major overhauls.
- Troubleshoot and repair fixed and rotating industrial equipment.
- Troubleshoot, plan, and perform corrective maintenance on mechanical systems.
- Plan and perform predictive and preventive maintenance to prevent breakdowns and major overhauls.
- Diagnose problems by interpreting and working from engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and equipment manufacturer’s literature.
- Meets safety requirements at all times
- Work well in a team environment – good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Climb ladders and gain access to difficult areas around equipment, structures, and roofs.
- Work with minimum supervision.
- Resolve problems calling for technical analysis and creativity in the field.
Expectations:
- Three years or more experience as an industrial mechanic or millwright.
- Experience performing machinery troubleshooting, inspections, and repairs.
- Ability to wear all required PPE for the work. This can include wearing hot suits for mechanical/pipe work.
- Experience with laser alignment.
- Experience troubleshooting, overhauling and repairing polymer re-melt equipment (polymer pumps, additive feeders, extruders, etc.).
- Experience using precision measurement instruments including calipers, micrometers, to measure bearing and thrusts clearances. Understands bearing and gear mesh wear performance to make go/no go decisions.
- Experience installing mechanical seals, including setting seal pre-loads and repairing pumps of all types.
- Experience performing pipefitting work.
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic and pneumatic problems.
- Experience with allowable machinery tolerances with ability to measure and set critical clearances.
- Experience using other precision instruments to measure gearbox backlash and to accomplish reverse dial indication alignment
- Experience using SAP system.
- Climbing and working from ladders to gain access to equipment, structures and roofs on a weekly basis.
- Bending, stooping, climbing, reaching, pushing, pulling and lifting on a daily basis.
- Lifting may be up to 50 lbs.
- Climbing up and down six flights of stairs occasionally.
