Flint Hills Resources is seeking an Instrument Engineer to drive digital transformation at our Houston Chemical Plant (HCP). As a key part of Koch Industries, Flint Hills Resources creates superior value for our customers and society using our Market-Based Management approach in the areas of refining, olefins, polymers, and biofuels. Houston Chemical was the first Catofin propane dehydrogenation plant in the United States, and worldwide, we remain the most productive Catofin plant in our size class. 

What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Design, specify, and coordinate the installation of instrumentation solutions to support digital transformation at HCP.
  • Support the commissioning of small-cap and large capital projects.
  • Network with external partners and internal colleagues across Koch to evaluate emerging instrumentation technologies. Apply appropriate technologies to opportunities at HCP to create value, with consideration for HCP’s risk profile.
  • Maintain an understanding of HCP’s operational opportunities and proactively recommend instrumentation solutions which create value.
  • Assist instrumentation specialists and technicians in troubleshooting of installed instrumentation.
  • Perform Root Cause Analyses of instrumentation-related failures and recommend economical and effective corrective actions. 

The Experience You Will Bring


  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in an operating process plant, such as refining or petrochemicals, in a role related to instrumentation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field.
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs, and ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • 10 years’ experience in an instrumentation-related role in a process industry, such as refining or petrochemicals.
