Eco-Tec is looking for a Development Engineering Specialist in our Pickering, ON location. In this role you will be responsible for product and process development, with initial focus on design, operation, and development of operating cycles for conventional ion exchange columns. 

What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Design experiments and experimental apparatus at the bench, lab and pilot scales, including implementation of process control.
  • Specify analytical methods to be employed in experiments.
  • Analyze and interpret data with the aid of computer spreadsheets, programs and statistical analyses.
  • Prepare written reports suitable for internal and external distribution.
  • Prepare written technical evaluations of new products and processes, including the review and summary of technical literature, preparation of simple process schematics, preparation of mass and energy balances, basic process sizing of equipment, and determination of preliminary capital equipment pricing and operating costs.
  • Keep abreast of current information in fields of interest through the continual review of technical literature.
  • Provide process technical support to technical service, sales and marketing, and process and applications departments.
  • Direct a small group of technologists in set-up of apparatus and carrying out experiments.
  • Must possess excellent reasoning/technical ability; analyze problems, identify alternate solutions, select and implement the best alternative and effectively communicate the logic behind the decision to others.
  • Perform other related duties as required by manager.
  • Adhere to all plant health, safety and environmental guidelines, policies and procedures.

Other Considerations:

  • Physical ability to work around and on industrial equipment, including frequent climbing, stooping, reaching, pulling, pushing, twisting, bending, kneeling, crawling and grasping. Standing for extended periods of time, walking up to two kilometers per day, and computer work while seated for greater than one hour.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment in designated areas (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, heeled boots and hearing protection).
  • Ability to lift up to 23 kg (50 lb) and be able to stand for extended periods as required.
  • Travel up to 10%.

    The Experience You Will Bring

    Requirements:

    • Master’s degree in chemical engineering or a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering with 5 years of relevant work experience.
    • Two years of experience working in an industrial piloting and/or R&D setting.
    • Two years of experience working with operation and development of operating cycles for conventional ion exchange columns.
    • One year of experience with membrane systems.
    • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing in English.
    • Ability to plan and complete projects in a timely matter
