Maintenance Planner


Georgia-Pacific is searching for a Lumber Maintenance Planner to join our team at our Bay Springs, MS facility. This role would focus on detailed job planning and coordination to support the large outage process. This position will require a motivated, organized, and detail-oriented individual knowledgeable of industrial equipment, processes, and procedures. A successful candidate will have a long-term continuous improvement focus that values establishing systemic processes that are system versus people dependent and create sustainable value.  

What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Participate in leading a safe work culture through example and planning to safely complete work
  • Embrace and cultivate the Market Based Management (MBM) culture by utilizing the MBM framework, guiding principles, and other mental models in everyday decision making
  • Contribute to improvement in the value drivers of the Operations Excellence model, specifically reliability and cost
  • Act as a facilitator between the operations personnel and maintenance supervisors to maximize the efficiency and value of maintenance activities in a way that best utilizes skilled craft workers, material resources and asset availability
  • Work with procurement organization and outside vendors to supply parts and services to support plant maintenance efforts
  • Communicate with and direct contractors on maintenance shutdown days and on an as needed basis
  • Demonstrate high sense of urgency and the discipline required to support a 24-hour, 7-day high volume manufacturing operation
  • Support the execution of maintenance work by receiving, planning, estimating, and coordinating maintenance work orders
  • Effectively use the CMMS to develop and maintain the maintenance schedule, manage equipment data, update Bill of Materials (BOM) for assets, and develop standard maintenance procedures (SMP)
  • Identifies/recommends opportunities for improvements
  • Maintains essential maintenance records and files
  • Scope work and assess the requirements for routine, planned down day, and annual outage activities
  • Verify the availability of parts, materials and tools required to perform a job prior to execution
  • Create purchase requisitions for contractor labor and support storeroom management efforts
  • Maintain a strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, including wearing safety equipment

The Experience You Will Bring


  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of experience working in a manufacturing, industrial, or military environment
  • Experience repairing manufacturing machinery and/or electrical equipment (i.e. pumps, valves, motors, transmitters)
  • Experience using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
  • Willing and able to work day shift with rotational weekends as well as holidays, weekends and outside normal office hours as needed

Physical Requirements:

  • Perform tasks such as lifting (up to 50 lbs.), walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing and/or pulling for up to twelve (12) hours a day in a noisy, non-air conditioned or unheated manufacturing plant environment

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Experience with MP2 and CAD software
  • 2+ years of supervisory or planner experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or military environment coaching, training, and developing staff
  • Experience in coordinating and supervising contractors
  • Experience as a maintenance/outage planner or with planning/scheduling within a manufacturing industrial or military environment
  • Experience working in the lumber industry
