The role of the Maintenance Engineer is to apply engineering concepts for the optimization of equipment, procedures, and departmental budgets to improve maintainability, reliability, and availability of equipment.
What You Will Do In Your Role
R1. Mean-Time-To-Repair (MTTR) Management
•Assist maintenance in executing “schedule break” (priority 1) repairs to reduce unplanned downtime
•Analyze downtime data to understand the items which create the largest losses and take action to reduce future downtime on these items
•Work with operations and maintenance (supervisors and operators) to identify and execute opportunities for improvement to the equipment to prevent or minimize downtime
•Assist maintenance planning (as required) to evaluate repair plans and improve
•Coordinate and work with equipment manufacturers and outside vendors to provide support to operations and maintenance to improve repair effectiveness.
•Own the spare parts program; Determine which parts need to be maintained to operate the facility consistent with Guardian’s risk profile
•Conduct maintainability studies to understand and minimize MTTR
•Network with other Guardian, KII, and external partners to understand and apply best knowledge to the maintenance and operation of our equipment
R2. Failure Recurrence Prevention
•Own the site Root Cause Analysis (RCA) program. Establish RCA triggers. Facilitate RCA’s for equipment. Identify actions to prevent recurrence. Track actions through to completion and ensure effectiveness.
•Be an expert MBM® Problem Solving Process facilitator and train others in the facility to use a standard RCA template (like ThinkReliability® CauseMapping)
R3. Equipment Maintainability
•Participate in the projects and capital processes representing maintenance and operations to ensure that equipment is designed to be operated and maintained consistent with plant expectations.
R4. Craft-Level Improvement & Support
•Work directly with operations and maintenance supervisors to improve the knowledge and skills of the operators.
•Work hand-in-hand with Operations Zone Owners to improve knowledge and understanding of the equipment and execute initiative in support of the Zone Owner.
The employee is frequently required to stand and walk, use hands to finger, handle, and feel, reach with arms and hands, and talk and hear. The employee is sometimes required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and sit. Specific vision requirements include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, and depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to lift up to 10 - 50 lbs. under certain circumstances.

The employee will need to wear all protective equipment relevant to working with hazardous chemicals.
The Experience You Will Bring
- BS in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Advanced knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and heating systems.
- Ability to read system schematics
