Georgia-Pacific Chemicals LLC is seeking a Scientist to join our Application Services Team at our R&D Technical Center in Decatur, GA (just outside Atlanta, GA). The Application Services Team supports R&D through small scale manufacturing of wood products and testing prior to implementation in production settings. Decatur site includes extensive application testing capabilities.

As a Scientist at Georgia-Pacific, you will play a key role in the product development cycle from idea generation, pilot scale manufacturing, through new product commercialization in addition to providing customer support around claims processing for wood products.

What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Support R&D projects around wood and other composite technologies
  • Customer support around claims processing for wood products
  • Manufacture and test samples generated in a pilot scale/lab setting
  • Write technical reports, communicating the results of the analyses to R&D and customers
  • Travel to customer sites to assist in trial support and troubleshooting
  • Working, collaborating, and innovating in a team setting
  • Communicating effectively in both verbal and written formats
  • Effectively planning, multi-tasking, and utilizing time management skills to complete projects and meet deadlines


    The Experience You Will Bring

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Wood Science, Materials Sciences, Chemistry, or related field, OR experience in wood/industrial processes
    • Able to work in a lab setting to include handling chemicals, and working in a small-scale production environment, including periods of time in dusty/noisy environments
    • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Experience and proficiency with MS Office products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

      • Industrial experience in R&D or manufacturing
      • Experience in claims processing for wood customers
      • Experience working in laboratory operations
      • Experience using power tools and saws
      • Statistical experience, analyzing large data sets
