Software Development Manager

 As the leader of the global Software team, the main responsibility of this position is to deliver world class and bleeding edge multi-tenant Cloud-based Industrial Automation Software solutions. The Software Development Manager is responsible to build and continuously improve a capable team of Solution Architects, Full Stack (Backend), Frontend and IoT Developers, and UX designers. The Software Development Manager is constantly monitoring the team capabilities as well as job market to make sure we offer a competitive work environment and the engineering resource pool is aligned with the group strategies and development projects in the horizon. The Software Development Manager must ensure high quality and very efficient development processes in place to provide a highly efficient, and agile development environment.  The Software Development Manager is a leader and influencer that can bring a team of highly talented professionals together and drive them toward accomplishing the group strategic goals.  

What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Comprehend the group development strategies and provide leadership to a multi-disciplinary Software team accordingly
  • Build and promote a self-organized and agile team consisted of top talents
  • Collaborate with talent management group to ensure a competitive work environment
  • Collaborate with Product Integration, Embedded SW, Platform, Product Management and Advanced Technology teams to plan a smooth development cycle for upcoming products
  • Lead and provide team building and improvement activities, and training plans
  • Own, maintain and constantly improve development processes collaborating with QA team
  • Ensure meeting commitments on delivering high quality outputs on time, clear and transparent reporting on development status, quality, risks, and mitigations
  • Build trust and a close working relationship with peers, higher management, and also the team, clarify the workflows and processes, and define the decision rights for the team members
  • Comprehend the business goals and needs of the group, communicate that clearly with your team and implement your strategies and action plans accordingly
  • Facilitate the team day to days and remove any obstacle or hinder that slows down the team
  • Mentor and coach the new team members to get up to speed
  • Practice and promote entrepreneurial, innovative, customer focused and forward-looking culture  


The Experience You Will Bring

Requirements:

  • MSc. or higher in Computer Engineering/Computer Science
  • 5+ years’ experience in managing Software development team
  • 3+ years’ team/development management experience in an agile development environment
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills
  • Strong people management and team building skills  


What Will Put You Ahead

  • P.Eng designation is an asset 2
  • Familiarity with Waterloo region job market and technical communities is a strong asset
