Georgia-Pacific is currently seeking an Optimizer for our Fiberline Operation at Alabama River Cellulose in Perdue Hill, AL. This position reports directly to our Fiberline Manager.The successful candidate will be a self-driven individual with a passion for excellence in Safety, Manufacturing, and Customer Focus and should exhibit strong communication and leadership skills. What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Manage area personnel effectively
  • Set expectations, and hold employees accountable, while providing effective coaching as needed
  • Utilize strong leadership skills with the ability to develop and encourage high levels of teamwork and participation on a diverse team
  • Actively engage with employees and focused on development of talent 
  • Support training and development initiatives for the crew and department 
  • Manage daily operations to achieve production goals
  • Understand and communicate goals in the areas of quality and production 
  • Collaborate and knowledge share with other departments across mill to ensure success of operational goals
  • Commit to environmental, health, & safety excellence
  • Acquire and share knowledge of applicable standards, policies, and procedures in areas of EH&S
  • Drive a safety-focused culture, regularly engage in and encourage safety participation among crew including facilitating safety meetings
  • Possess a passion for identifying and mitigating critical hazards
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency and accountability in: Housekeeping; Prioritizing and processing work; Supporting routine and annual outages; Planning, assigning, and providing follow-up of work
  • Strive for continuous improvement, recognize opportunities to minimize and eliminate waste - follow through to ensure achievement of results

The Experience You Will Bring


  • Bachelor of Science Degree OR 5 years of experience in a Fiberline operation
  • Three (3) years or more of experience in a technical or supervisory role within a Fiberline operation
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Word (i.e. creating documents), Excel (i.e. creating spreadsheets, utilizing formulas, & analyzing data), and Outlook (i.e. scheduling meeting invites & emailing)

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering or Paper Science
  • Experience with Kraft recovery liquor cycle
  • Experience with Microsoft PowerPoint and Project
  • Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
