PROCESS CHEMISTRY ADVISOR
Description
Flint Hills Resources is looking for a Process Chemistry Advisor to join their team in Corpus Christi, Texas. The Process Chemistry Advisor is the primary contact for site process corrosion and fouling chemistry issues. This role will be responsible for recognizing process corrosion and fouling environments and ensuring process chemistry knowledge is incorporated into fixed equipment reliability programs. Ensure corrosion and fouling prevention strategies are correctly applied through direct ownership of the process, water, and fuel chemical programs.
What You Will Do In Your Role
- The process Chemistry Advisor role is responsible for implementing and maintaining process corrosion and fouling strategies minimizing damage due to corrosion and ensuring units run TA to TA. These strategies are applied through direct ownership of the chemical programs for process, water, and fuels. Understand the function of each chemical injection application and evaluate alternatives that provide the most cost-effective solution.
- Monitor application performance achieving equipment lifecycle objectives.
- Understand operating envelope performance and manage targets
- Promote vendors’ understanding of FHR’s business model, challenge to develop and assist with new solutions aimed to improve reliability and profitability
- Provide process chemistry knowledge and support to both FHR customers and chemical vendors
- Identify, understand, and champion business opportunities and projects to create value
- Lead and oversee activities of vendors' project execution utilizing best practices
- Build strong relationships with FHR operational end users
- Identify opportunities for business development and lower cost
- Recognize and troubleshoot issues with chemical injection systems
- Understand chemical vendor capabilities and use this knowledge to identify and pair the proper vendor with treatment or service opportunities
- Understand on-site vendor job tasks and the laboratory testing methods used to monitor chemical program performance
- Utilize expert knowledge to create and modify operating envelope limits to align with the goals of the chemicals, programs
- Develop, understand and publish chemical program performance metrics
- Serve as the expert on industry best practices for chemical injection applications
- Interface effectively with other business groups (such as process engineering, operations, and procurement)
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs and entry into confined spaces
- Ability to work some overtime, including nights, weekends, and holidays during turnarounds and outages
The Experience You Will Bring
Requirements:
- 3+ years of refinery experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Physical Science, or equivalent
- Proven technical competency
- Ability to work with technicians and professionals to troubleshoot and solve problems
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
What Will Put You Ahead
- 7+ years of refinery experience
- Experience with crude unit desalting, refinery-wide corrosion control, utility water treatment, and finished fuel additive treatment within a refinery or in a refinery engineering position
- Knowledge of refinery damage mechanisms
- Project management experience
- ASPEN process simulation modeling or equivalent experience
- Refinery Chemical Injection Program experience
This role is subject to the Transportation Workers Identification Credentialing (TWIC) rule and requires the successful candidate to obtain a TWIC identification badge, allowing for un-escorted access to the facility within a specific time period.
