Georgia-Pacific is on the hunt for a public affairs and communications game-changer who will have the opportunity to work remotely in the Southeast. 

You will travel up to 65-70% of the time. This role will focus on using internal and external communications to increase the company’s profile in various communities while helping the community understand the changing building products business. This includes maintaining a positive relationship with the community, local government and municipal representatives, local media as well as being seen as a valuable extension of the facilities’ leadership.

The role will focus on these key areas:

  • Public Affairs/Community Relations: Does it make you smile when you think about having the opportunity to position your employer as a good neighbor and outstanding community partner?   • Media Relations: What about pitching stories to the media and responding with answers when asked? Does that kick your heart into high gear?
  • Internal Communication: Do you enjoy the fast pace of internal communication, where leaders depend on you for counsel and measurable execution of communication plans? Is keeping a sizable team connected to important goals and strategy your thing?

What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Establish strong relationships with community members including local government officials, regulatory agencies and community groups.
  • Own local issues and coordinate activities with legal, government affairs and corporate communications.
  • Strategic communications advisor to the leadership teams and managers at the various facilities to help build consistent and relevant communications for effective employee engagement.
  • Develop, implement and manage a comprehensive employee communications program that encourages face-to-face communications and supports information sharing through written and visual tools.
  • Advise facility leadership teams of issues, attitudes and opinions both inside and outside the company that could affect mill operations. This includes establishing a climate of cooperation with employees and implementing or helping support necessary programs to maintain GP’s position as a leader in a highly competitive industry.
  • Establish and maintain the means to detect signals of company vulnerability in external and internal environments; develop communications plans for crisis and serve as a member of the crisis management team.
  • Tell the GP/facility business story through various outlets in the community.
  • Crisis response and media relations. Work strategically with the Atlanta based communications team to develop strong relationships with reporters and editors who cover the community and participate in the process of gathering and disseminating news. This includes serving as company spokesperson and facilitating interviews by providing background, details and explanation.
  • Develop and implement programs and volunteer opportunities in support of the local community that are aligned with GP’s focus areas of entrepreneurship, education, environment and enrichment, and opportunities that add long-term value to our business, community and customers.

The Experience You Will Bring

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree
  • 7+ years of communications experience
  • Experience with communications strategy and programs, including adapting and implementing best practices of other communications programs
  • Excellent writing, editing and general communication skills
  • Willing to travel up to 65-70% of the time

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Undergraduate in journalism, communications, or public relations preferred
