The successful candidate will be provided a $7,500 signing bonus after starting the new role. External candidates and internal Koch company employees moving to the new location when hired are considered eligible.

Georgia-Pacific has an immediate opening for a regional Strategic Environmental Manager to provide leadership, support, and strategic planning for the water/wastewater programs at our Containerboard facilities located in Big Island, VA, Cedar Springs, GA, Brewton, AL and Monticello, MS.

In this regional role you will embrace and lead our transformation efforts and will be a key leader in the development, implementation, and management of the region’s environmental water/wastewater compliance programs and management systems. The Strategic Environmental Manager will possess strong interpersonal skills, and efficiently balance multiple priorities. You’ll need strong verbal and written communication skills and to effectively communicate with a wide variety of audiences. You’ll lead by example, be self-motivated, possess strong analytical skills, exhibit sound decision-making, and have proficient organizational skills.

In this role, you will support and work out of the Cedar Springs, GA facility daily with travel to the other Containerboard facility locations as necessary (Big Island, VA, Brewton, AL, or Monticello, MS). In this role, you will work closely with the site and other environmental managers in the Containerboard Region and across other regions to share knowledge that will help the entire organization deliver superior results.

What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction related to the region’s water/wastewater programs consistent with our Stewardship & Compliance Principle to achieve our Vision.
  • Develop and maintain an evergreen point of view of environmental risks, priorities, key issues, and strategic plans as it pertains to the region’s water/wastewater program.
  • Lead and support business permitting efforts and track emerging issues.
  • Fulfill regulatory compliance obligations in a disciplined manner that leverages technology enablers, common processes, and best practices from across the enterprise.
  • Systematically drive the water/wastewater environmental programs to be more resilient, effective, consistent, verifiable, and efficient (structured and principled vs. rule based).
  • Build solid working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including regulatory agencies.
  • Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of mill processes and their impact on environmental performance that allows each facility to enable our operations teams to meet their environmental obligations.

    The Experience You Will Bring

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Environmental Management, Environmental Science, or Pulp and Paper Science
    • Five (5+) or more years of environmental regulatory experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
    • Experience leading projects, people, and/or teams

      What Will Put You Ahead

      • Experience in leading water/wastewater environmental programs in a large manufacturing environment (Both Activated Sludge Treatment and Aerated Stabilization Basin systems)
      • Experience with developing and improving strategic plans related to water/wastewater programs.
      • Pulp and paper process and regulatory knowledge (NPDES, Stormwater, SPCC and USACE programs)
