Senior Electrical Design Lead



Optimized Process Designs, LLC (OPD) is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Lead in Katy, TX to support our Electrical design team. As a highly motivated, self-starter you will be passionately leading a team of designers toward the OPD vision. The primary focus areas will be quality, on-time performance, design consistency/excellence, cost, and innovation. Develop and maintain good working relationships with the design team, project management, project engineering, and construction producing a total teamwork environment. The role will function as both a lead electrical designer and a supervisor to help develop a team of high performing designers.

What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Responsible for leading and coaching the Electrical design team for OPD to support their development and further advance our vision. The electrical design team is responsible for the design of the electrical systems and infrastructure associated with multiple EPC projects.
  • Responsible for the full electrical design cycle including concept generations, detailed design models, drawings, design reviews including but not limited to one-line, schematics diagrams, interconnects, cable tray, details, grounding, duct banks, lighting, building layouts, cable schedule, BOMs, area classification, 3D modeling, and plot plans.
  • Coordinate and lead design efforts to ensure projects deliverables are compliant with industry, customer and company standards and specifications.
  • Design supervisor metrics (safety, quality, on-time performance, cost, and vision implementation)
  • Communicate effectively between design teams, project management, project engineering, construction, and third-party design suppliers in alignment with project needs
  • Execute multiple projects at the same time
  • Resource planning to meet project milestones
  • Designer development and training
  • Provide field support when necessary and attend equipment FATs.
  • Use professional knowledge and standard methodology to define or diagnose issues and find the most effective solution for moderately sophisticated design challenges without the benefit of defined procedures.

The Experience You Will Bring


  • Technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of the design of power systems.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, CADWorx, Bluebeam, Intools (or similar database), office software and ability to read, understand, and review engineering drawings and documents.
  • Expertise in Codes and Standards such as API, PIP ISO, NFPA, NEC, IEEE, ASME

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering Discipline
  • Field construction and technical experience.
  • The ability to adapt to change with a heightened sense of urgency.
  • A minimum of seven years' experience in full detail electrical design in refinery, chemical, power plant, and/or midstream industries.
  • A minimum of two years of experience working as a supervisor
