Flint Hills Resources is looking for an Operator Technician to join our team in Taft, TX. As a Operator Technician you will work as part of a team to oversee the overall operation of the pipelines and terminals in the area. A successful candidate will have the ability to work independently, have good critical thinking skills, and a Safety-mindset. Candidate should be able to Multitask, possess good computer skills, and verbal and written communication.

This role also offers a flexible 9/80’s work schedule, meaning there is the potential for every other Friday off depending on workload.

What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Oversee product transfers within facilities and perform valve line ups as needed
  • Maintain accurate measurement as well as product quality
  • Effectively perform LOTO
  • Provide troubleshooting on mechanical, electrical, instrumentation equipment
  • Perform facility station checks
  • Perform periodic inspections of tanks, pumps, valves, piping, etc
  • Launching/receiving in-line cleaning tools and inspection devices
  • Effectively locate and mark underground pipelines
  • Excavation and construction oversight of third parties working near FHR pipelines
  • Install permanent markers, signs, and manage right-or-way activities and encroachments
  • Promote pipeline safety and safe digging practices, this includes, but not limited to, communicating with excavators, landowners, and emergency response officials

The Experience You Will Bring


  • Experience with Mechanical and/or electrical equipment
  • A valid U.S. driver's license
  • Willing and able to reside within an approximate 30-minute drive of Taft, TX
  • 1+ Experience working in the oil and gas industry
  • Ability to work independently in remote locations
  • Computer skills with the ability to use and learn proprietary databases
  • Willing to be in an on-call rotational and work overtime as needed
  • Willing to respond to calls 24/7 for emergency response and business needs
  • Able to meet physical requirements

What Will Put You Ahead

  • A two-year technical or mechanical degree
  • At least two years of construction/maintenance experience in a bulk storage terminal
  • Previous work experience in a bulk storage terminal and/or pipeline facilities
  • One year experience applying API measurement practices
  • 1-2 years of Electrical and Instrumentation troubleshooting experience
  • One year of experience in petroleum, or chemical industry

Physical Requirements for the Role

  • Physical ability to frequently stand, walk, lift, carry, push, pull, reach, handle, bend, twist, climb and balance
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check, DOT drug screen, and pre-hire HAZWOPER physical
  • Ability & willingness to utilize Personal Protective Equipment (for example: hard hat, safety glasses, fire retardant clothing, respirator, safety work boots, etc. as required)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (with frequent carrying of up to 25 pounds)
  • Must be willing and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
