DevOps Engineer (Remote)



Koch Ag & Energy Solutions, LLC. (KAES) is seeking a DevOps Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team in our IT Group. KAES and its subsidiaries market and distribute more than 13 million tons of fertilizer products annually worldwide. From an IT perspective, this creates a wealth of opportunities to develop and apply your skills and to explore a variety of career paths. This role will collaborate with delivery teams, architecture and infrastructure capabilities, and other teams across KAES to deliver high value business outcomes. This position will allow the successful candidate to work with the Platform Engineering team, applying DevOps and Continuous Delivery practices to enable delivery teams, working with many DevOps services and development tools to create and maintain a sustainable, scalable, and secure platform for a profitable growing company.

What you will do in your role

  • Work with delivery teams to design and create automated builds and release pipelines
  • Create and maintain development templates to enable and increase the velocity of delivery teams
  • Collaborate with architects, peers, and other teams to design, build and maintain a scalable platform and infrastructure, always improving reliability, observability, and security
  • Create automation that support modern architecture and security best practices
  • Collaborate frequently with application developers to support development efforts and enable a fast feedback loops
  • Enable test automation practices to increase deployment frequency and improve confidence in delivered software
  • Provide recommendations to improve the application of continuous integration and continuous delivery principles and practices
  • Implement centralized observability, monitoring and notifications for APIs, Services, and applications
  • Provide support for incidents and issues impacting KAES application infrastructure, platform, and pipelines
  • Be an advocate for DevOps values, principles, patterns, and practices
  • Proactively share knowledge on potential improvements to business and/or technology processes
  • Continuous research of new technologies, practices, processes, and tools

What you will bring


  • 2 years experience designing and building automated build and release pipelines
  • 2 years experience with IaC (Infrastructure as Code) tools and services
  • 2 years experience working with APM and Observability tools and services (Datadog, Sumo Logic, Dynatrace, etc.)
  • 2 years experience using git-based source control management platforms (Azure DevOps, GitHub, etc.)
  • 2 years experience with AWS Serverless services
  • 2 years experience with object-oriented languages (JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, Python, C#, etc.)
  • 1 year experience with scripting languages (bash, PowerShell, etc.)
  • 1 year experience with virtual machines and containers

What will put you ahead

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an IT discipline
  • 2 years experience with Azure DevOps Pipelines
  • 1 year experience with Serverless Framework
  • 2 years experience with JavaScript/TypeScript
  • 2 years experience with Node.js
  • 2 years experience with JavaScript build tools: bundlers (webpack, esbuild), linters (eslint), formatters (prettier)
  • 2 years experience with AWS Lambda
  • 2 years experience with Cloud Security Services (AWS IAM, AWS CloudTrail, AWS KMS, etc., or equivalents)
  • 2 years experience with Containerization (Docker)
  • 2 years experience with container orchestration platforms and services (Kubernetes, Amazon EKS, Amazon ECS, Fargate (EKS, ECS))
  • Deep Understanding of AWS cloud networking concepts (VPCs, Route 53, Security Groups, NLB, ALB etc.)
  • Amazon Web Services Certified Developer or DevOps Engineer
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and DORA metrics
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Self-motivated and able to perform job duties and responsibilities with little instruction on day-to-day work and general instructions on new assignments.

Any compensation range provided for a role is an estimate determined by available market data. The actual amount may be higher or lower than the range provided considering each candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities, and geographic location. For this role, we anticipate paying $ 100,000 - $ 140,000 per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
