Electrical Engineering Specialist

Eco-tec, a Koch Separation Solutions company is currently looking for an Electrical Engineering Specialist in Pickering, Ontario!

The incumbent is responsible for the high-quality product engineering in compliance with CSA, UL and other applicable electrical codes and standards, and generate design/drawings using AutoCAD electrical software as per project deliverables to internal and external customers on time and within budget. The incumbent will assume ownership of the electrical/instrumentation portions of new design-build projects, select electrical components based on project scope and specification requirements, evaluate and estimate costs based on project bid specifications and make improvements/modifications to existing product designs using strong engineering knowledge and best engineering practices and techniques. 

What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Instrument air and pneumatic
  • Participate in project initiation, kickoff meetings and obtain all relevant project background technical information to develop thorough understanding of the electrical/instrumentation scope of work and customer expectations.
  • Study all technical specifications, deviations, project specific code compliance requirements and design document expectations to formulate a thorough working plan towards execution of the project.
  • Prepare design calculation, control wiring diagrams, drawings of electrical panel layouts and BOMs for fabrication as per the Sales order requirements and in accordance with applicable client specifications, recognized codes, standards, and recommended practices, and Eco-Tec procedures and standards. These drawings/documents include development of electrical equipment layouts, P&ID, assemblies, motor lists, instrument lists, component datasheets, control narratives, functional descriptions, pneumatic diagrams, part descriptions and Bills of materials

Execute system designs for components such as:


  • Motor controls and VFDs for pumps, agitators, blowers, compressors, etc
  • Instrument and measurement and control devices
  • Instrument air and pneumatic
  • Prepare additional project documentation as per the Sales order requirements and in accordance with applicable Client specifications, recognized Codes, Standards, Recommended Practices, and Eco-Tec procedures and standards
  • Attend project meetings, provide updates and feedback on project execution, monitor construction in Production area, guide/mentor electricians and other draftspersons, collect “lessons learned” from production, customer service and other project stakeholders and improve/revise/update design drawings and documentations.
  • Prepare complete electrical installation guides to Production for assembly.
  • Ensure excellent accuracy of all design work generated
  • Utilize knowledge of engineering, drafting practices, mathematics, building materials, manufacturing technology
  • Plan and schedule activities, evaluate best value alternatives, strictly adhere to approved schedule and to budget
  • Provide extensive support to the Manufacturing Engineering group, Materials and Planning group to facilitate procurement of parts and to the Manufacturing group to facilitate the fabrication process
  • Perform modifications and as-built changes to current project designs as well as to standard drawings and documents
  • Assist in bid specifications from customers and technical preparations for tendering and proposals
  • Prepare installation specification for contactors, evaluate their offers, and ensure proper coordination of their activities with the project
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure a smooth workflow so that predetermined shipping dates are met, costing is accomplished and customer service problems are resolved in a timely manner
  • Assist in the development of new products as required and propose and suggest technical and procedural improvements
  • Act as a resource to all departments
  • Adhere to Eco-Tec’s ISO 9001 Quality Procedures and prepare, maintain, and release all quality documentation accordingly
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with the company’s Workplace H&S rules, policies and procedures at all times
  • Attend training programs necessary to maintain/upgrade skills
  • Perform other related duties as required by the Department Manager.
  • Results oriented, strong organizational skills and attention to detail, strong mechanical aptitude, flexible, cooperative team player, excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task and strong sense of urgency is a must

The Experience You Will Bring

Requirements:

  • University degree in Electrical/Instrumentation Engineering or equivalent 
  • Current holder of or actively pursuing Professional Engineering License from PEO
  •  Design experience in a manufacturing environment. AutoCAD Electrical is a must 
  • Thorough understanding of all relevant CSA, UL, NFPA electrical codes & standards and processes involved in obtaining certification of control panels and skidded equipment as per applicable codes 
  • Proficient computer skills (MS Office), AutoCAD Electrical
  •  Ability to work Overtime when needed 
  • Ability to travel when needed with a valid passport that allows you to travel internationally including the USA and legally eligible to enter the USA
